Like most who were seated on the first floor at the Iroquois Theater, thirty-nine-year-old Annie Flynn escaped. The identity of her theater companions has not been verified but it is almost certain she was in the party with Mary Frazier and probably sat with Bessie Carrington at the Iroquois.  The connection to the Fraziers is that Annie's husband, a wood worker, was employed by W.S. Frazier & Co., an Aurora buggy manufacturer owned by Mary Frazier's husband, where Bessie Carrington worked as well.

Annie Brophy* (1865-1940) of Ontario married David Flynn in 1882 at age eighteen.  David Flynn jr, their only child, was born six years later so was about fifteen years old at the time of her death. Both Annie and David were children of Irish immigrants.  Annie's parents were Thomas and Eliza Carey Brophy who brought their family to America around 1876.  The Brophy and Flynn families lived most of their lives in Kane County, Illinois.

At the time of the Iroquois fire, Annie and David lived in North Aurora, Illinois, though they were claimed in the January 8, 1904 Saint Charles Chronicle newspaper as residents of St. Charles, a village eight miles north.  North Aurora wasn't incorporated until 1905 so boundaries were probably still fuzzy.

A note about sourcing.  When this project began, I failed to anticipate the day might come when a more scholarly approach would be called for.  When my mistake was recognized I faced a decision: go back and spend years creating source lists for every page, or go forward and try to cover more of the people and circumstances involved in the disaster.  Were I twenty years younger, I'd have gone back, but in recognition that this project will end when I do, I chose to go forward.  These pages will provide enough information, it is hoped, to provide subsequent researchers with additional information.
