The accompanying story highlighted roughly half the Chicago public school
teachers who died at the Iroquois Theater December
30, 1903, involving thirty-two schools. There were no class trips to the
theater in those days but it was one of the last
available days during Christmas break and featured an old fairy tale
from children's literature so attracted many teachers and
students.
